Naturopathic Doctor in Minnesota: Hopkins Clinic or Video Visits
The nearest naturopathic doctor may be hours from home. Or you've searched for a holistic doctor in Minnesota and can't tell who's actually trained. We're Drs. Haley and Jacob Panka, registered naturopathic doctors. We see patients at our family-owned clinic in downtown Hopkins and by secure video anywhere in Minnesota.
Panka Natural Health is a family-owned naturopathic clinic in downtown Hopkins, MN. Drs. Haley and Jacob Panka are registered naturopathic doctors in Minnesota under Statute 147E, overseen by the Board of Medical Practice. You can see them in Hopkins or by secure video while you're anywhere in Minnesota. Adult first visits run two full hours, and you see the same doctors at every visit.
How we work as naturopathic doctors across Minnesota
Before your first visit, you upload recent labs, imaging reports, and your medication list to our secure Charm patient portal, and we read them first. You can also fax your records to our clinic at 612-568-9020. Adult first visits run two full hours, in Hopkins or by video. Dr. Haley focuses on women's health and hormones, pediatrics, holistic diabetes care, and supportive breast cancer care. Dr. Jacob focuses on fatigue, focus, and stress, heart and metabolic health, the gutโbrain connection, men's health, and athletic performance. You see the same two doctors at every visit and leave with a written plan. Follow-ups run 60 minutes and can stay virtual. Secure messaging through Charm is included, with no membership.
What makes someone a naturopathic doctor in Minnesota
Not everyone who offers naturopathic care is a naturopathic doctor. In Minnesota, the titles "naturopathic doctor" and "registered naturopathic doctor" are protected by state law (Minnesota Statutes chapter 147E). Only people registered with the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice can use them. To register, a doctor needs a diploma from an approved naturopathic medical program. They also need a passing score on the national board exam (the NPLEX). People without that training may still use naturopathic methods, just not those titles. Some traditional naturopaths trained through programs that aren't accredited and vary widely in length and content. We both finished four-year doctoral programs at the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon.
What a naturopathic doctor can and can't do here
Minnesota law calls naturopathic medicine a system of primary health care. Here, that means we can do a physical exam, order lab tests, refer you for imaging, and recommend food, herbs, supplements, and lifestyle changes. We can't prescribe legend drugs (prescription medications) or controlled substances. If you take thyroid hormone, a statin, hormone therapy, or a GLP-1 medication, we work alongside the clinician who prescribes it. We also screen everything you take for interactions. We still encourage every patient to keep a primary care physician (MD or DO). We add time and depth. We don't replace your annual exam, screenings, or urgent care.
How video visits work, and what needs hands-on care
Video visits are HIPAA-compliant. You must be physically in Minnesota (or Wisconsin) during the visit. Most of our work, from your history to your labs and plan, translates well to video. Some things need hands-on care. A new lump or a changing mole should be examined by your primary care clinician or a dermatologist. Sudden or severe belly pain, or a hot, swollen joint, especially with fever, needs same-day urgent care or the ER. For non-urgent exam needs, we can see you in Hopkins. Our office is up four steps and isn't wheelchair accessible, so video works when stairs are a barrier.
How labs work when you live outside the metro
Reviewing labs from the last year is part of your visit. We read results through a functional lens and look at patterns over time. Minnesota law lets us order clinical lab tests, and you don't need to come to Hopkins to start. For new testing, you have two routes: your other providers may be able to order some tests through insurance, or you can pay cash for testing through us. Some tests, such as a SIBO breath test or a comprehensive stool analysis, use samples you collect at home. Blood tests need a lab draw. Before we order one, we'll talk through where you can get it done near home. You'll know what a test costs before we order it.
This visit may fit ifโฆ
You live anywhere in Minnesota and want a registered naturopathic doctor without driving to the metro.
Your labs keep coming back normal, but you still don't feel right.
You want natural, evidence-informed options that work alongside your current care.
You'd like one clinic for the family, with children seen from infancy through age 21.
See someone else first ifโฆ
Chest pain, trouble breathing, signs of a stroke, or thoughts of harming yourself: call 911 or 988, or go to the nearest emergency room.
Sudden, severe belly pain, a hot, swollen joint with fever, or a fever that won't break: get same-day urgent care or go to the ER.
A new lump, a changing mole, unexplained weight loss, or blood in your stool: see your primary care clinician first.
You need a prescription, a refill, or same-day care: contact your prescriber, your primary care clinician, or urgent care.

Common questions
Do you take insurance?
We're a direct-pay (cash-pay) practice, out-of-network with all insurers. We provide a superbill for possible out-of-network reimbursement and accept HSA and FSA cards. Medicare and Medicaid don't reimburse naturopathic services in Minnesota. Current fees are on our scheduling page.
Can I see you by video if I live far from the Twin Cities?
Yes. Whether you're in Duluth or Rochester, you can see us by video, as long as you're physically in Minnesota. We're also licensed in Wisconsin, for virtual visits only. Outside those states, look for a naturopathic doctor licensed where you are.
Is a naturopathic doctor the same as a holistic doctor?
Not always. Minnesota law protects the title "naturopathic doctor," but not the word "holistic." Only registered NDs may use that title. Whatever someone calls themselves, ask where they trained and whether they're registered.
